The difficult path to Native American citizenship.

Native Americans as a whole have contributed more to the growth, development, and security of the United States than any other ethnic minority. Still, Native Americans were not even considered people under the laws of the United States until 1879. It would be another 45 years until they would be granted citizenship. It would take an additional 30 years from that point for all the rights of citizenship to be ensured throughout the United States. Why was this right so long denied? Why was the struggle for citizenship not on an uphil struggle, but also a devisive issue for Native Americans in general? Act of Will is an exploration of how Native Americans earned their citizenship, through dedication to the nation that had so long marginalized them.
