Switching gears for a few weeks, we will look at the three major conflicts between the United States and the Seminole Nation--known as the Seminole Wars. This nomenclature is deceptive, however, as the Seminole Wars were a continuation of the previous Creek rebellions and an extension of colonialsim. The American government did not dispatch Jackson to expand its borders, only to secure them. However, from his own experience the native tribes of the region were a threat to the United States. He exceeded his orders and managed to secure a significant portion of western Florida without actually encountering the Seminole. What he would do next would forever cement his reputation in the Indian Wars.
