His skills as an orator made him the natural leader of one of the largest Indian alliances since before the American Revolution.

Though little has been revealed about his life before 1790, Little Turtle is perhaps one of the greatest Native American leaders of the post-revolutionary period. A member of the Miami tribe of Indiana, Little Turtle organized of the largest and most successful military campaigns against the American government. He fought for four years and bloodied the nose of this over confident new nation. In this article, we have seen the early successes of Little Turtle as his new alliance engages the Americans for the first time. Respected by his fellow Indians. Little Turtle soon became a symbol of active resistance. It was not his skills as a tactician, however, that earned him a reputation of a formidable leader. It was his ability to inspire others to take action. We will see this demonstrated in the years following the Ohio Indian Wars.
