» Feature Writer Jeffrey R Gudzune - A Mystery Carved in Wood

In response to A Mystery Carved in Wood posted by g_o_e_shadow:

In my reseach, Governor White had instructed the settlers of Roanoke to give an indication as to their whereabouts in the event of an emergency. The Croatoan (or Pamlico) tribe had friendly relations with the colonists, mostly through White's own efforts, and the evidence suggests that they relocated to their domain. However, this still remains a mystery--the conclusions in my article support the theory that the settlers relocated due to some disater (perhaps a coastal storm, or raid by an unfriendly tribe, or even pirates linked to Spain). It remains a theory based on the evidence, but new information is uncovered every day. Thank you for your comments. I hope you have enjoyed the articles and continue to propose new ideas.
